Local Business Group Surveys Mayoral Candidates About Small Business Issues

Vest Pocket Business Coalition distributes surveys to the 10 candidates for Salt Lake City Mayor. The survey asks questions about locally-owned businesses and their issues. The compiled results will be posted to the web on March 15, 2007 and printed for distribution shortly after.

Salt Lake City, Utah February 12, 2007 – Vest Pocket Business Coalition will distribute a survey about locally-owned business issues on February 15th to the 10 candidates for Salt Lake City mayor.

The Vest Pocket Business Coalition is a Salt Lake City-based 501(c)(6) non-profit organization that believes in cultivating locally owned businesses.

The survey is 8 questions long and asks questions regarding everything from “Have you ever owned a small business?” to “How do we maintain and grow the unique flavor of businesses that exist in the city?”

“Locally owned and independent businesses add a "sense of place" to our city.  They offer unique goods and personalized services, revitalize areas vulnerable to abandonment and blight, and build the economy much more than chains and big box businesses,” said Ellen Reddick, President of Vest Pocket Business Coalition. “Small businesses are the major employer in this country.  It is vitally important that Salt Lake City's next mayor understand the importance of local small business to our lives.”

While the Vest Pocket Business Coalition will endorse any candidate for public office, the survey was designed to help small business owners differentiate between the 10 candidates.

The responses to the survey are due March 1st and the assembled results will be available online on March 15th at http://www.slcmayor.com.
