Salt Lake City honors POW/MIA Recognition Day with flag raising at City Hall
In honor of National POW/MIA Recognition Day (September 15, 2017), Mayor Jackie Biskupski ordered the POW/MIA flag to fly through the weekend on the grounds of the City-County Building.
“We raise the POW-MIA flag today out of deep respect for those who served our nation and never returned, as well as their loved ones,” said Mayor Jackie Biskupski. “As a City, we say ‘you are not forgotten’”
The observance of POW/MIA Recognition Day began in 1979 to raise awareness of the large number of Americans who were still missing after the end of hostilities in Southeast Asia. Of the men and women whoserved our country in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and later conflicts, there are currently over 82,000 whose fates and whereabouts remain unknown
